Hugo Tavarez Samaniego, age 77, of Pasadena, Texas, entered eternal rest on January 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 17, 1949, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Matias and Esther Tavarez Samaniego.

Hugo was a devoted father, and grandfather who lived life to the fullest. He was a man of deep faith and lived by the saying, "El que piensa en la muerte, pierde fe en la vida." His faith shaped the way he loved, served, and led his family. He was also a very humorous person who could make a joke out of everything-and everyone. If you had a pulse, you were not safe from him picking on you, and his humor became one of the many ways he made people feel seen, included, and loved.

Hugo was born and proudly raised in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico. In time, his work in the chemical plants brought him and his wife to Pasadena, Texas, where they settled, built a home, and established deep roots grounded in family, hard work, and love. He eventually became a truck driver, a career he dedicated himself to for the remainder of his working years, until retiring at the age of 60. His dedication and strong work ethic were evident in everything he did.

Hugo enjoyed the simple joys of everyday life like, taking walks around the block, attending garage sales, and finding treasures wherever he could… including "shopping" people's curbs to see what was worth bringing home. Hugo also took great pride in caring for his yard, proudly living by the family phrase that will never be forgotten: "Step on my grass and I kick your ass." His love for yard work even turned into a side hustle, and he was always happiest when he was outside working with his hands. He also enjoyed taking bike rides around the neighborhood, but his family prayed every time he went for a ride, because he was a strong believer in the idea that bike riders always had the right of way.  His family was never surprised by random calls from neighbors, all expressing concern about his safety.

More than anything, Hugo loved his grandchildren. He truly seized every moment he had with them, whether it was taking them along on his daily walks, watching Looney Tunes together, or eating lunch with them after school. He was often their ride to and from school, and he never missed the opportunity to make it memorable, honking as much as he could on the way to wake the whole neighborhood up, honking again in front of the school to make sure his grandkids knew he was there, and even honking at strangers for his own enjoyment. Like any fun grandfather, Hugo taught them a few "bad things," shared his jokes and mannerisms, and, most importantly, guided them through life with lessons rooted in love, faith, and being good human beings.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Luz Olga, and his daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia Anda and Mario Anda, Jessica Raymundo and Alex Raymundo, Tanya Lopez and Orlando Lopez, and Natalie Rosales and Delfino Rosales. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Ivan Raymundo, Analee Anda, Zeida Lopez, Zaid Raymundo, Bryant Rosales, Julian Lopez, Alexia Raymundo, Arielle Rosales, and Adelaida Rosales. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matias Tavarez and Esther Samaniego, his siblings, Ubaldo Tavarez, Carmen Tavarez, Aida De Anda, Noé Tavarez, Ninfa Tavarez, Everardo Tavarez, and Samuel Tavarez; and his beloved grandson, Mario Anda.

His family finds comfort in knowing that Hugo lived every day like it was his last day, and did as he pleased till his last breath.

A celebration of Hugo's life will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2026 with a visitation from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m, at Peevey Funeral Home, located at 12440 Beamer Rd, Houston, Texas 77089. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m.

A Funeral mass will be held Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Juan Diego Catholic Church, 3301 Pasadena Blvd, Pasadena, TX with interment to follow at Grand View Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, Texas 77505.
