Homer Elgin Wiggins completed his earthly journey and peacefully went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 8, 2024. He was 88 years old.

Homer was born in Conroe, Texas, on November 17, 1936, to Fannie Mae and Roy Landra Wiggins. He was a father, a step-father, an uncle, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Dixie Rae Wiggins, his brother, R.L. Wiggins, his wife, Ruth Wiggins, his daughters' mother, Jeanne Wiggins, his son-in-law, Ronnie Anderson, and most recently, his youngest daughter, Kiki Wiggins (2022), and his oldest grandson, Daniel Parrish (2023).

Homer graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1954. During his later high school years, he began working in a grocery store as a stocker, then milk truck driver, and eventually worked in the meat department as a butcher/meat cutter. Advancing in his career, Homer worked as a journeyman meatcutter and meat market manager until he retired from the meat industry in 2002.

Homer was also an ordained minister, evangelist, and missionary. He served in various positions within his local church, including the role of part-time preacher, assistant pastor, and pastor, and he was involved in various outreach ministries. During this time, if asked by anyone what he did for a living he'd proudly say, "I'm a butcher and a preacher."

In the early 1990s, Homer began serving as a volunteer missionary with the International Board of Jewish Missions, preaching and teaching the Good News of Jesus Christ to the Jewish Community. He held "Friends for Israel" meetings at his local church and in his home and even attended synagogue to become familiar and acquainted with Jewish customs and traditions.

Homer was a people person, and he never met a stranger. Be it while shopping at the grocery store, waiting in a doctor's office, or merely walking in his neighborhood, he made a point of pausing and talking to anyone he met who would listen. After the death of his wife in 2015, Homer relocated to Houston from Ore City, Texas. It wasn't long before he began making new friends and becoming involved in his community.

Homer is remembered for his work ethic, his love for God and his family, and his desire and dedication in sharing his faith and winning others to Christ. In his ministry's early years, it was very common to find Homer on a street corner in downtown Houston on a Saturday night, passing out tracts and preaching God's Word to anyone who would listen.

Homer is survived and missed by his daughters, Denise Chatham, Sharon Anderson, and Elisa Doest; his son-in-law, Leslie Doest; his grandchildren, Kelli Day, Amanda Montcrieff, Jennifer Doest, Stephen Doest, and Jessica Doest; his great-grandsons, Jeffrey Day, Ethan Day, and Micah Chatham; his nieces and nephews, his four step-children and their families, as well as several close friends. Homer also leaves behind and is especially missed by his dearest and closest special friend and companion, Ms. Emma Garza.
