Harvey Willis Huffman passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022 in Pasadena, Texas. Harvey was second to youngest child to George and Ola Mae Huffman and was born on February 9, 1932. He was raised in Donie and attended Teague High School. After high school he enlisted in The United States Navy and served from May 1953 to September 1955. He was one of 7 brothers who served in the military.

After an Honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked three years as a railroad telegraph operator prior to being employed by Champion International Paper Company in Pasadena in 1956. He worked for Champion for 41 years and retired in February 1997.

Harvey was predeceased by his parents George and Ola, brothers Clayton, George, Howard, Dale and Kenneth and sisters, Mavis, Ruth, June and Chloe. His only daughter, Lana Lea passed away in 2013 after a brief illness.

Harvey is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nellie, son Michael and daughter-in-law Nancy of Pasadena. Three grandchildren, Taylor Huffman of Houston, John Michael Erwin and wife Lela of Teague and James Matthew Erwin and wife Kasi of Teague. Four great-grandchildren, Skyler, Ashlynn, Parker and Trinity all of Teague. One brother, James of Teague and a very special sister-in-law, Lou Wilson of Teague. He also had numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Harvey became a Christian in 1958 and was a lifetime member of the Watters Road Church of Christ.

Before his illness, he loved golfing, fishing and sports. He was an avid sports spectator prior to and following coaching stints for Michael in youth football and baseball. He attended thousand sporting events in the Pasadena ISD district beginning in 1958 and continuing until his health could no longer allow him to climb the bleachers. In his final years of watching sports, he had a passion to attend San Jacinto College basketball games with his dear friend Gene Porter.

He was very proud and honored that he got to serve his country and of being a veteran. He was very proud of Lana's music and art ability and loved to hear her sing and play the piano. He was very happy his son was a law enforcement officer and held high esteem for all public defenders.

The visitation will be held Friday, December 16, 2022 from 4pm-6pm at Peevey Funeral Home 12440 Beamer Road. A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 1:00pm at Union Cemetery in Freestone County/Teague, Texas.
