Gloria Faye Moffett Jones Minor departed this life peacefully on March 14, 2023, at the age of 89.

Gloria was born to Claude and Bertha Perry Moffett on November 14, 1933, in Port Arthur, Texas. Gloria attended Vidor High School and grew up with two beloved sisters, Loretta and Maxine. When Gloria was a teenager, she and her family moved from Port Arthur to Beaumont, Texas and began a new life in the big city.

After moving to Beaumont Gloria met Eugene Jones and they fell in love, married, and had a son named Clayton. Soon after Clayton was born the young newlyweds moved to Houston, Texas, settling in the east end of town and expanding their family with the births of two daughters, Vickie and Melissa.

Gloria always loved the water, and took her children fishing and crabbing as often as she could. She was famous for the gumbo she would come home and cook after a successful day on the water. Her children love their memories of those days on the water with their mom.

Gloria loved all things cosmetology and started doing hair as a young woman, working in a local beauty shop for a time, until she finally opened her own salon. She loved her clientele and her time in the salon, meeting new people everyday and perfecting her craft. She remained a successful beautician until she decided it was time for a change and went to work for the City of Houston as an inspector until her retirement in the late 1990s.

Gloria met and married RC Minor later in life, and spent wonderful years with him until his death. Gloria always remembered her years with RC with abiding love and affection.

She could usually be found having fun with friends, spending time with her grandchildren as her family grew, and, occasionally, belting out an old country music classic; she loved to sing and adored music.

In the 2000s, Gloria once again decided it was time for a change and moved to Sargent, Texas, into a place on the water. There, she continued her love of fishing and crabbing which she shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were also introduced to that famous gumbo. She loved to cook and garden, and was proud of the vegetables she tended and grew, and included in her meals. She lived a peaceful, content life there on the water with her companion Joe Taylor, with whom she spent the later years of her life.

She was "Mom" to three, "Mimi" to many - including the "adopted" grandchildren she picked up along the way - and was a dear friend to countless, special people. She left quite a mark on this world during her time here, and she will be dearly missed by everyone that loved her, and they are numerous.

Gloria is survived be her companion, Joe Taylor, and her daughter, Vickie McRay. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Matt and Shelby McRay, Jonathan and Kamille McRay, Dustin and Brelyn McRay, Jennifer and Dwayne Sorsby, and Sara and Alex Bladerrama. Also surviving Gloria are her great-granchildren: Andrew, Claire, Alli, Jona, Maci, Hayden, and Demi McRay, Logan, Grayson, and Trenton Sorsby, and Rylee and Jaxon Balderrama.

Preceding Gloria in death are her parents, Claude and Bertha, her sisters Loretta Fotheringham and Maxine Stelly, her son and daughter Clayton and Melissa Jones, and her granddaughter, April McRay.

We will miss our Mom and Mimi until we see her again one day, and we know that we will.

Gloria's life will be honored with a memorial service on Friday, March 17, at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Road, Houston, Texas 77089. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, and the service will begin at 11:00 AM. Friends and family are invited to join us for a reception following the service, at the home of Vickie McRay and Harry Keller.

A private burial will be held at a later date.
