Glenn Leonard Tollerene went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday March 16, 2023 at the age of 90. He was the only child of parents James Steven Tollerene and Gladys Leona Perry Tollerene.

Glenn was born in Houston, Texas on December 25, 1932. He attended Austin High School, played clarinet in the band, and graduated in 1951. Glenn received a full scholarship to attend Rice Institute, graduating in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Civil Engineering. While at Rice, Glenn was a member of the Naval ROTC and Rice band. Upon graduation, Glenn was commissioned an Officer in the United States Navy.

Glenn met Peggy Catherine Ventry, his wife of 66 years on a blind date in 1954. They were married on June 2, 1956 in Houston, Texas. Immediately after marrying Peggy, Glenn received orders to Naval Air Facility Monterey, California. Upon arrival no immediate base housing was available. Their first home was on the prestigious 17 Mile Drive, Pebble Beach, California, not really within the range of an Ensign's pay with a new wife. Glenn frequently said with a grin "all accommodations have been downhill ever since". Their first son Gary was born in Carmel, California in 1958. Ensign Tollerene quickly demonstrated a passion for leading young enlisted sailors. This resulted in the Base Commander assigning Glenn the responsibility of leading the Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) department on base. Loving sports, this allowed Glenn to manage all on base athletic activities for hundreds of sailors and officers. At some point early in his Monterey assignment, the Base Commander discovered Glenn had a Civil Engineering degree. Not long after, young Ensign Tollerene was in charge of designing and building a new parking lot in front of base headquarters. Glenn loved his country and served in the United States Navy with great passion.

In June of 1958, upon completing his USN obligation, Glenn and Peggy returned to Houston where Glenn started work as a Civil Engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation. He immediately enrolled at the University of Houston, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1962. In 1964, Glenn and Peggy welcomed their second son Bryan into the family. By this time, Glenn had begun a new career at Columbia Gulf Transmission as a Pipeline Engineer. He worked at Columbia Gulf for 33 years. During his distinguished career, Glenn worked as a licensed Professional Engineer and licensed Land Surveyor in both Texas and Louisiana. He retired from Columbia Gulf as the Director of Gas Measurement in May of 1992.

Glenn and Peggy raised their family in Houston, Texas where they attended Freeway Manor Baptist Church. At Freeway Manor, Glenn served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for teenagers. His house was typically full of high school kids on Friday or Saturday nights hosting parties and table tennis tournaments. For many years, Glenn spent his vacations skiing the slopes of Colorado's mountains with his friends at Freeway Manor.

Upon retirement, Glenn kept active in the Gas Measurement industry, working as a consultant to Kinder Morgan and serving as President and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Gulf Coast Gas Measurement Short Course, Inc. While serving in these roles, Glenn met and developed close friendships with many people. He and Peggy traveled to Colorado each summer with this group of friends and former colleagues.

Glenn was a passionate hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He also loved playing almost any sport. In retirement, his favorite sport was softball. Glenn captained several teams that played internationally in Europe and Japan. After playing softball for many years, he worked as an Umpire until he was almost 80 years old.

In retirement, Glenn and Peggy spent a wonderful 20 years as members of First Baptist Church Houston. Having Pastor John and Uldine Bisagno, teachers Beth Moore and Bob Mathews, and Sunday School leaders Deana and Dwayne Persons was a true blessing and highlight of their lives. In 1997, he traveled back to Europe with Houston's First Baptist Church Choir, putting on concerts throughout Germany and Switzerland. In Glenn's later years, he was blessed to attend First Baptist Church Pasadena, surrounded by their wonderful and loving connection group (Sunday school) and congregation.

Above all else, Glenn's unlimited faith in God guided him through life. This is why he was such a loving, dedicated, gentle, generous husband, father and grandfather. There was never a doubt that when someone was in need, Glenn, Dad or Grandpa would be there to help.

Glenn was preceded in death by his mother Gladys and father James Tollerene.

Glenn is survived by his wife Peggy; son Gary and wife Cathy; son Bryan; nephew Kyle; niece Barbara and husband Richard; grandsons and spouses Jay and Stacy, and Ben and Morgan; great grand-daughters Blakely and Carmen; special cousin Gayle Saunders and husband Fred, as well as numerous other cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Glenn's memory to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 310, Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts 02481.

The funeral will be in the Chapel of First Baptist Church - Pasadena Wednesday, March 22, at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.
