George Edwin Gibbs, Jr. husband, father, brother, pawpaw, friend, teacher, mentor, was called home July 12, 2022. Born to George Edwin Gibbs, Sr. and Dorothy Lee Newman in Houston, TX on December 14, 1951, yet those who knew him, knew him as Eddie Gibbs, Mr. Eddie, Dad, Pawpaw, Buddy and Big Lug.

On June 3, 2006, Eddie would marry the love of his life, Vicki Lynn. They will forever be known as Eddie and Vicki. Bringing a family of their own, they quickly move from his and her family to our family. Eddie and Vicki have spent twenty-one years building a library full of memories with their kids, grandkids and many friends.

Eddie Gibbs was preceded in death by his parents George and Dorothy, stepmother, Jody Gibbs, and grandson, Austin.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Vicki Lynn; his stepmother, Patricia Flori; his siblings: Patricia Nicholson and husband, Larry; Earl Gibbs and wife, Paulette; Betty Looney and partner, Carla; his children: Kristie Brice and husband, Bradley; Craig Gibbs and wife, Marissa; Matthew Gibbs and wife, Amanda; Andrea Polinard; Jessica Bowman and husband, Cody; Bryan Guice and wife, Leah; his 11 grandchildren; sister of the heart, Joanne Graham and buddy, Allan Graham, brother of the heart, Rick Shuman and wife, Toni, and cherished friend and fellow Dallas Cowboy Superfan Roger Harris and wife Sue. The list of those left with his love and legacy are too numerous to count.

Love for the Lord and love for the church is what Eddie would want anyone to know about him first and foremost. A dedicated member of First Baptist Church Pasadena, he joyfully served the Lord in whatever capacity he was called: his beloved cart driving and greeting where countless heard, "Hi! It's great to see y'all. We're so glad you're here!", in drama and the Singing Christmas Tree, and baptism duty. His latest and great joy in the church was graduating from the Men of the King course. In life, Eddie worshiped the Lord with all his heart and ability.

"Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture." (Psalm 100:1-5)

We can only imagine with hearing restored the might of his praise alongside the angels.

Eddie's love for family is stronger than all measure. He was and will always be the foundation and North Star on which his family relies. With a heart of gold and iron will, Eddie would meet any challenge to protect, council, and rejoice with all his family. His children revered him and his grandchildren cherished him. Eddie could horse around with the grandkids with the best of them with the loudest laughter in the world. A book could be written of Eddie and Vicki's escapades with their family and friends.

Eddie was hired by Shell Oil Refinery on June 23, 1976, a career that would last for 43 years. Starting in the operations department for Shell, Eddie quickly realized his passion for safety and training. Within a few years at Shell Eddie became a Training Coordinator and would spend the rest of his years training and mentoring Operators, New Hires, Contractors and countless more. His passion for training extended outside Shell as a board member on the Process Tech program at San Jacinto College. His final contribution to Shell was as a Learning and Development Advisor helping new hires and potential hires navigate Process Tech interviews for future positions in Oil and Gas. Then finally retiring in October 2018.

Eddie and sports were as natural as banana pudding and summertime. In the early 70's Eddie was a linebacker for a Semi-Pro Football Team and once tried out for the Houston Oilers. To say he was a Dallas Cowboys superfan would be an understatement. Through his life Eddie played basketball, softball, volleyball, tennis, and his latest passion for the last several years was golf, cornhole, and the boardgame Pandemic. His love for playing was equally matched by his love to coach.

Eddie's passion for teaching will extend beyond his death. With his donation to the Forensic Sciences Dept. at Sam Houston State University, he will continue to teach for generations to come.

The service celebrating his life will be held at First Baptist Church Pasadena, Tuesday, July 19, at 3:00pm., the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
