Fran Montgomery, our beloved, sweet mother and nanny, passed away peacefully on November 25th, 2023. She took her last breath on this earth and appeared before her Father God and Savior Jesus in her glorious new home of Heaven. Waiting there for her was our Dad (Poppy), many other family members, and lifelong friends. The wonderful reunion has begun.

Mom was born in Hodge, Louisiana, on July 10th, 1938, to Horace and Katie Nunn. When her brother David was born in 1945, the little family was complete. She grew up in Quitman, Louisiana, and graduated from Quitman High School in 1956. She was always gifted in home economics, and her teacher, Mrs.Waldrip, said she was the first student she could not teach anything to; she already knew it all! She also played some basketball and was the scorekeeper for the Wolverines for many years.

However, her true desire was to be a hairstylist. If you asked our mom how long she had been doing hair, she would say 70 years, and that was the truth! My grandfather taught her to do hair when she was a teenager, and she would practice on her family members who lived in the area. Mom did go on to Beauty School after graduation to make it all official. She went on to open her own beauty shop, Fran-Jeanne Silhouette, with her lifelong business partner Jeanne Gallant, where they served the women of Southeast Houston for 53 years. She was not only a marvelous hairdresser, but also a friend and confidant to the many customers that were blessed by her company each visit.

Mom met our Dad, Monty L. Montgomery, in North Louisiana during their high school years. They fell in love and were married on October 20th, 1956. They were married for 56 years until Dad's passing in 2012. After they moved to Houston, they were blessed with the birth of a son, Blair, in 1963 and a daughter, Tanya, in 1969. Mom greatly influenced us by teaching us to love people and each other all our lives. Through the years, Mom was blessed to see the birth of 5 granddaughters and 1 great-granddaughter. She called them her "hearts" and enjoyed hugging and kissing them as much as possible.

Fran was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Katie Nunn, our Dad, Monty L. Montgomery, and her best friend and business partner, Jeanne Gallant. She is survived by her son, Rev.Monty B. Montgomery, and wife, Leah; her daughter, Tanya Varela; and husband, John; and her brother David Nunn.  She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ashley Bretzke and husband Josh; Emily Pardo and husband Johan; Andrea Montgomery and Fiancé Aaron; Sarah Varela, Isabella Varela, and great-granddaughter Cambrey Bretzke, whom Nanny loved getting to see before her passing. Mom is survived by many friends and family, near and far, that could not be here today, but love her very much.

Visitation with the family is scheduled for 10:30 am on Sunday, December 3rd, at Freeway Manor Community Church, with a celebration of life following at 11:30 am. A reception will follow the service. A graveside service will take place in Quitman, Louisiana on Tuesday, December 5th at 10 am.
