Felton Ellsworth Hayes, Jr. passed away peacefully, January 4, 2022. In April of 2021, he was diagnosed with ALS. Although the disease progressed quickly, he never complained, and he fearlessly fought to maintain his lifestyle as much as possible. Although he was a man of few words, his faith, opinions, and convictions were deep, and his love was unconditional.

Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Felton moved to Houston in the 1970s to work in the petrochemical industry as a piping designer, retiring from Bechtel after 28 years. Felton loved his work and was proud of his design contributions, but his greatest love and joy was found in his family. He and his wife, Martha, met and married in 1976. Their daughters Katharine and Ashley, and his son, Shawn, were the core of his heart and motivation in life.

Felton loved being outdoors, and as his neighbors can tell you, he was constantly working in the yard! Felton cared about his appearance, and his fedora was a signature fashion statement with him. As a longtime friend said recently, Felton never dressed down.

Felton is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Martha (Smith) Hayes; their daughters, Katharine Hayes and her husband Tom McGinn, Ashley McFadden and her husband Kieran and their children Jude and Declan McFadden, and Felton's son Shawn Hayes and his wife Stephanie and their children Nathan, Addison, Joshua, Violet, and Sawyer.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church Pasadena, Saturday, January 8, at 11:00am., with visitation one hour prior to the service.
