Esteban Cantú passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 12, 2025.  Esteban was born in 1951 and was a proud son of Cienega de Flores, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He attended the Universidad Autόnoma de Nuevo Leon, where he studied mechanical engineering and later became a professor in the same department.   An engineer by trade, he enjoyed the challenge of his 40-year career in industrial sales. He had a keen mathematical mind and a love of travel, and his career allowed him to combine them into one. He had a way of making those he encountered feel valued; he never met a stranger.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of over 50 years, Alma Rosa, their daughters Sandra Gomez (Pablo Gomez †) and Cyndi Cantú (Brian Baumgardner), their 5 grandchildren Stephanie Gomez, Daniel Gomez, Adrian Gomez (Kyara Gomez), Alma Baumgardner Cantu, and Alec Baumgardner Cantu, his brothers Dr. Mario Cantú (Esthela Garcia Cantú) and Rene Cantú, his mother-in-law Vera Quiroga, and all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Yanett Del Jesus Cantu, his parents Segundo Cantu and Maria de La Luz Cantu, his sister Maria de La Luz Cantu Quiroga, his son-in-law Pablo Gomez, and his partner in crime/father-in-law Armando Quiroga.

Esteban appreciated the simple pleasures in life – a good carne asada, cold beer, a soccer game on the TV with his favorite music in the background and being surrounded by his family. A lottery ticket or a trip to the casino was just icing on the cake for him. His insatiable curiosity created a passion for reading and discovering other cultures. He loved telling stories about his life and youthful adventures. We find comfort in the many memories we shared with him and the life lessons we learned from him. He taught us the value of simple things and left a lasting legacy in the family he built with his wife.

The funeral service will be held at Peevey Funeral Home, Thursday, April 24, at 11:00am., with visitation one hour prior to the service.
