Ellen Minette Armstrong was received back in God's arms on December 3, 2021 surrounded by her loving family in her home town of Houston, Texas at the age of 87.

Ellen was born to Hollen Gordon Hoppe & Irene Selma Mary Hoppe in San Antonio, Texas on November 15th, 1934. Ellen now joins her loving husband of 55 years Mickey Armstrong along with her faithful dog "Pepper" and her parents where she will rest in eternal peace.

Ellen's life journey began on a farm in the hill country out side of San Antonio, Texas. She often told stories of life growing up on a farm and what she experienced as a child during those years.

Ellen later moved with her parents to Austin, Texas where her father worked locally and attended school at the University of Texas. The family eventually relocated to Dickinson, Texas where her father went to work for American Oil and supported the recovery of the Texas City disaster in 1947.

The family grew permanent roots on the bayou in Dickinson where she enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing with her father who started a boat shop and raced boats on the bayou and Galveston Bay. Ellen really enjoyed living in Dickinson where she met her high school sweet heart Mickey Kuhl-Armstrong and later graduated from Dickinson high school in 1953.

After graduation, Ellen attended college at Sam Houston State University where she received a Bachelor's degree in Education while her high school sweet heart joined the NAVY and served time overseas in North Africa. Upon graduation Ellen initially taught grade school in Dickinson while waiting for her high school sweet heart to return from the service.

Ellen married Mickey Armstrong on April 20th, 1957. They established roots in Houston where Mickey went to work for Trans Texas Airways at Hobby Airport. They raised 4 children, Diana, Debra, Randy and Larry from 1959 to 1969. Ellen eventually returned to her calling teaching elementary school children in the Pasadena school district for over 30 years.

Ellen was a true Texas woman and pioneer of her time, she loved the outdoors especially fishing, camping and boating. She was a leader of her time raising 4 children, obtaining a college education and giving back to the community by teaching. She will always be remembered and never forgotten by everyone she knew or touched, including her grandchildren who made her life complete.

Ellen leaves behind her legacy and family in her children, Diana Armstrong, Debra and Garner Lambert, Randy and Suzanne Armstrong, Larry and Shelley Armstrong, her loving grandchildren Matthew Armstrong, Kaitlin and Tim Meadows, Brandon Armstrong and Miranda Vidaurri, Alexis Armstrong, Alayna Armstrong, great grandchild Harper Marie Meadows, Cousin Mary Sewell, nephew Eddie Armstrong and niece Valerie Armstrong.

A memorial gathering in Ellen's honor will be held at Peevey Funeral Home on Sunday December 12th, 2021 between 2 to 4 pm. 12440 Beamer Road Houston, TX 77089. Friends are invited to come and go as you please and share some memories with her family.
