Our beloved mother Elizabeth Ann Corgey née Mathis passed away on April 27, 2023. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 19, 1933 and lived in Houston her entire life. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Richard Mathis and Sally Fern Walker.

Mom is survived by her sons, Commissioner Dean Corgey and wife Angela and Captain Eric Corgey and wife Kim and daughters Ellen Marie Elmer and husband Sid and Terry Ann Flores. She leaves behind her grandchildren Angie Chhabra nee Elmer, Matthew Elmer, Travis Dean Corgey, Nathan Corgey, Mali Ford and Kevin Flores as well as many great grandchildren.

Mom was a child of the Great Depression and World War II and was tough as nails. She was the Drum Majorette at Sam Houston High School in Houston. She stood her ground and fought for what she thought was right and passed those qualities on to her children. Her father was a union boilermaker and was drafted into the Navy at 37 years of age because he knew how to run steam plants. He proudly served on the Battleship Mississippi and fought in all the major naval battles in the Pacific Theatre including the Battle of Leyte Gulf which was the turning point of the war and when the Japanese Navy was decimated. Grandpa was on deck in dress whites when the Japanese surrendered in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945. His legacy is in our DNA.

Mom entered the workforce at the age of 31 in an entry level banking position and worked her way up to vice president of First City Bank. Her work ethic, Christian values and tenacity were an inspiration to her children and whatever we have been able to accomplish in life we owe largely to her.

Mom was baptized at Richey Street Baptist Church in Pasadena Texas and was a strong Christian. She suffered late in life but always managed to win the hearts and minds of all with that beautiful smile, magnetic personality and brilliant blue eyes. She is at peace now with our Savior Lord Jesus Christ and may she have fair winds and following seas for eternity.
