Earnestine (Toni) Wells, 88, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2023, surrounded with her family and friends by her side.

Toni was born and raised in Hemphill, Texas on May 24th, 1934, to Larkin and Agnes Morris. She attended Hemphill High School where she graduated on May 16, 1952. Toni married the love of her life, James Wells that night with her graduatingclassmates attending their wedding. James and Toni's love story began after he moved from Marshall to Hemphill to take a job as a bookkeeper for the local saw mill. James asked her sister for a date but upon arriving and meeting Toni, he knew she was the one for him. They were married for 56 years.

Toni was a nurse by trade but her true calling was a loving wife, mother and grandmother which included her love for all the babies and children she cared for over the years. Her daughter would often say she never felt like an only child because her home was filled with girlfriends. Judy recalls the day she brought six girlfriends home for her Mom to pierce their ears. Toni was a great lady that had such loving patience to a house full of noisy girls. Toni was a mother to many.

Toni was a member of Memorial Baptist Church of Pasadena, Life Member of Order of the Eastern Star and a Member of Daughters of the Nile. She is survived by her daughter, Julia Wells Ghormley and her grandson Joshua Thomas Ghormley and his wife Annie. She is preceded in death by her parents Larkin and Agnes Morris, husband James Wells, brothers James Morris, Edward Morris and Burtis Morris, sisters Irene Harnish, Evelyn Morris and Trudy Shults and a host of friends that were her family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, February 7th, with visitation one hour prior to the service, all held at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Road, Houston 77089. Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park, 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena 77505. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 815 Market Street, Galveston, TX 77550.
