Douglas Eugene Chaddock passed away on March 25, 2025 and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara, son Brent, daughter-in-law Ashley, grandchildren Eva and Brydan, sister and brother-in-law Kathy and Charlie Bryant, brother-in-laws Jerry Parkerson and Randy Robbins, nephews Chad and Todd Gatto, and Paul Parkerson, nieces Elise White, Ginger Higgins, and Mary Parkerson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alcie Chaddock, and sisters Dina Parkerson and Judy Robbins.

Born February 23, 1943, the second oldest in a family with three sisters, Doug grew up in Spring Branch spending much of his time outside, where he developed a lifelong love of the outdoors and baseball. After graduating from Spring Branch High School, he attended Dallas Bible College, a Met's farm team, and Air Force basic training. Doug started a job as a machinist for General Electric in the Heights where he worked for the next 39 years.

With an appreciation for speed and cars, Doug was in his Chevy II at Prince's Drive-in when he first met Barbara. The two would realize later that they had both attended the same Billy Graham Crusade when they were children, and in fact they were both baptized the same year. After dating for a year and a one year engagement Doug and Barbara were married June 24, 1967 at Spring Branch Community Church where Doug had grown up. The ceremony was performed by newly ordained brother-in-law Jerry Parkerson. The newlyweds moved to a small home on Bramley until 1974 when they purchased a home on Harris Ave.

When Brent was born in 1979 Doug started cleaning swimming pools as a second job so Barbara didn't have to work. His honesty and hard work in the profession led to customers who became lifelong friends. Doug continued cleaning pools after his retirement from GE until 2012 when he fell in a pool breaking his neck. Brent continued caring for Doug's pools after his injury. In fact, the Chaddock's had tended to the pools of Mickey Gilley from 1981 until Mickey's passing.

Doug loved baseball. It only seemed fitting that Barbara worked at the Astrodome as a Spacette during many of the Astros games Doug watched. Together they attended hundreds of ball games from Brent's Pee-wee, Little League, and high school, to Doug's many softball tournaments, to spring trainings in Florida and Arizona. Doug's love of baseball also led to several pilgrimages to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Even the week before his passing he was looking forward to the Astros opening day. Baseball was a never ending source of enjoyment for Doug. He was happy to teach others about a game that is challenging, fun, and full of life lessons. He was a manager and coach for several teams from little league to high school, teaching the fundamentals of throwing and of life.

One of Doug's other passions was hunting and fishing, spending many cold winter mornings in a deer blind, and the dog days of summer hauling red snapper from the blue waters of the gulf. He even went to Saskatchewan to hunt elk.

While not a particularly outgoing person, Doug was always cognizant of his walk with the Lord and his witness to others. Even though he sometimes appeared melancholy, he found comfort in the scriptures- particularly Job and Ecclesiastes. Joining South Main Baptist Church in 1989, Doug and Barbara helped teach Sunday School to fourth graders and kindergartners until his injury in 2012. To the kids Mr. Doug was the gentle giant with donuts.

Never craving the spotlight, Doug had a servant's heart, and a kindness given without attachments that will be sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held at South Main Baptist Church on Friday April 4, 2025 at 2:00pm.
