On July 24, 1925, an extremely hot and dry West Texas Friday, Doris Lavelle Chafin made her entrance into this world in the very small town of Holliday, Texas, near Wichita Falls. Doris spent her childhood in the nearby town of Bryson, Texas. When she was eleven, Doris was in a terrible car accident in which her mother and little sister were killed, and she and her little brother Bob were seriously injured.

In 1940 she met a handsome young sailor, and at the age of 15, on Valentine's Day 1941, she married Adrian Ellis and became Doris Lavelle Chafin Ellis.  Her one and only child Cecil was born the following December.

Around 1945 near the end of the war, Doris and her son moved to Houston where her father and younger brother Bob had moved earlier. In her early 20's Doris found office work nearby and eventually found work at a prominent downtown bank. She started working as a bookkeeper at age 23 at Texas Commerce Bank, which is now Chase Bank, and eventually earned the position of a bank officer. During her early years at Texas Commerce Bank she also enjoyed playing on the bank's softball team. Throughout her career she rode the metro bus back and forth from her home near the Katy Freeway to downtown Houston until she retired at age 62, having worked at the bank as a dedicated employee for nearly 40 years. She moved to Pearland in 2018 to be near her family.

Throughout her life, Doris loved ice tea with lots of lemons, hamburgers with extra onions, stylish shoes, lots of jewelry, going to garage and estate sales, and spending time with friends and family.

Our beautiful Grandmother Dee departed this earthly world on July 7, 2026, just 17 days shy of her 101st birthday. Doris(aka Dee) is survived by her son Cecil Ellis, daughter-in-law Barbara, grandsons Brent Ellis(Jessica), J.R. Mize(Kim), granddaughter Raeanne Crain(Brad), great-grandsons Jake Crain, Jaxon Crain, A.J. Ellis, and Dominic Garcia, great-granddaughters Savannah Redwine(Matt), Taylor Crain, and Allie Ellis, and great-great-grandsons Grayson Garcia, Christian Garcia, and Rhett Redwine. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Diane Chafin who was truly like a sister to her and by her loving nieces and nephews. She was a special lady.
