Doris was born on November 9, 1951, in Jean, Texas, to Roy Elmer Ladd and Hazel Beatrice Delaney. At that time, her family resided in nearby Olney, where Roy was a Baptist church pastor. The family lived for the next few years in the North Texas – Fort Worth area until they moved to Houston in 1956 upon her father becoming the pastor of Baptist Temple in the Houston Heights neighborhood.

After graduating from Waltrip High School in 1970, where she was proud to claim the honor of being their school's table tennis champion, Doris attended the University of Houston for two years and enjoyed being a member of the dance squad that performed at UH football games.

In 1976, while residing in Virginia, she gave birth to her son, Charles, and in 1984, Doris adopted two daughters, Misti and Desiree, ages one and two at that time.

After moving back to Houston in 1977, Doris pursued a career as a legal secretary and earned her certification as a paralegal in 1988. She served as a paralegal for various law firms in the Houston area until she retired.

Doris married Michael Walker in 1994, and Mike's four children, Stacey, Melissa, Shawn, and James, became part of their "blended" family. While busily raising children, running a household, and working as a paralegal, Doris found time to teach paralegal courses for several years at Lee College in Baytown. Unfortunately, Mike passed away suddenly in 2014.

Following her retirement in 2019, Doris married Roland Bienvenu. After Roland sold his home in Sugar Land and settled into their married life in League City, they took a "honeymoon cruise" out of Galveston that October. Roland and Doris (aka "RoDo") enjoyed their periodic visits to south Louisiana to visit Roland's family and friends and enjoy the Cajun cuisine there. In 2022, they experienced a wonderful Alaskan cruise and a few other trips, including the Texas Hill country.

Survivors include her husband, Roland Bienvenu, brother Gerald Ladd; children, Charles McWhirter (Amy), Misti Paulson, Desiree Martin, Stacey Faircloth (Alvin), Melissa Kirk (Chris), James Walker, Shawn Walker; and 18 grandchildren. Her parents, her sister Sarah Hogue, and Michael Walker preceded her in death.

Her family and friends will always and forever remember Doris as a devout Christian, a beloved and caring mother and grandmother, a talented and skilled paralegal, a great cook, a loving wife, a generous and giving person, a bright light, and a sweet soul. Doris enjoyed working in her garden and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved hosting large family get-togethers, particularly during the holidays. Always a very genuine and spirited woman, Doris possessed a unique dry sense of humor and was proud of her years as a paralegal and college instructor. Doris showed considerable "feistiness" throughout her life and was a true fighter. She succumbed to liver disease and went to be with the Lord on September 21, 2023.

The celebration of life will be held at Peevey Funeral Home, Saturday, September 30 at 3:00pm, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
