Donald E. Ault, 87, Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Proud Air Force Veteran.

Donald Eugene Ault, age 87, passed away July 1, 2025. Born December 24, 1937, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to DeForrest J. Ault Jr. and Madaline Louise Mitcheltree Ault. Donald lived a life defined by love, kindness and service to God, his family, his country and his community.

Early Life and Military Service: Donald answered the call to serve and enlisted in the United States Air Force, later continuing his commitment with the Texas Air National Guard 147th Fighter Intercept Group. Throughout his military career, he embodied the values of honor, duty, and integrity. He took pride in mentoring others and remained an active supporter of veterans' causes long after his retirement. He continued many cherished friendships with his military buddies over the years. He organized and enjoyed their monthly military breakfast outings.

Family and Personal Life: Donald married the love of his life, Patricia S. Ault, on June 30, 1962, at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Pasadena, Texas. They first met at an NCO dance, where their connection was instant and undeniable. Their beautiful 63 years together were marked by shared adventures, deep friendship, and steadfast everlasting love. Donald loved Patricia more than life itself and would do anything for her. Their marriage was a testament to unwavering love and commitment, inspiring everyone who knew them. Don was a devoted and loving father to three children: Charlene Louise Ault Barclay (Michael Barclay), Michael E. Ault (Christine Ault), and Cynthia Leigh Ault (Barbara Brown).

Don cherished family gatherings, backyard barbecues, holidays and birthday celebrations, playing BIP and frequent fishing adventures with his great-grandson, Luke Aiden. His favorite time of day was the joy of sipping early morning coffee by the pond with his wife, Pat. Each day was brightened further by playing Words with Friends with his only son, Michael E. Ault. His firstborn, Charlene, carries many of his qualities, and their deep connection reflected that daily. He affectionately called Cynthia the most beautiful baby and lovingly teased that she was the "Golden Child." Don held a special place in his heart for his dear friend and son-in-law, Michael L. Barclay, Sr. Above all, he was profoundly proud of his family, who meant everything to him. Donald's wisdom, humor, and knack for people made him the HEART of every occasion. His warmth brought people together in a way that made every occasion unforgettable.

Donald shared a close bond with his siblings: Joyce Curwin (Robert), Dave Ault (Mary Anne), and Judy Goltsch (Larry). Their shared childhood memories, family traditions, and enduring support for one another were a source of strength and joy throughout his life.

Donald's best friend was his dog Max, a loyal and spirited companion who rode around with him everywhere. Max was more than just a pet; he was a constant source of joy and comfort, sharing in Donald's daily adventures and bringing smiles to everyone they met.

Donald was known for the practical items he carried with him everywhere—rubber bands, Superglue, paperclips, bungee cords, and coins for phone calls before cell phones. These small tools reflected his resourcefulness and readiness to help others at a moment's notice. He was often heard saying, "You never know when you might need ...."

Donald's life was also filled with cherished memories which brought joy to those around him. His white hair and little red truck were iconic, as were his hearty laughter and love for dancing. He was affectionately nicknamed "Einstein" for his wisdom, wit, and white hair. Donald had a fondness for daily visits to HEB, Sam's, or Costco, as well as trips to Lancaster Central Market. He delighted in Blue Bell vanilla milkshakes, hot soft pretzels, Lebanon bologna, Swiss cheese, apple pie, Longjohn sweet cream-filled donuts, Faschnauts, Twizzlers, and JuJu gummy candy.

Donald's golf "Hole in One" and sharpshooter marksman skills were celebrated achievements that brought pride and admiration. Early family memories include Don wearing his military fatigues paired with black spit-shine military boots, dividing a single piece of Juicy Fruit Gum into three pieces for his children, and marveling at the daily USAF fighter jet flyovers. His grandchildren fondly recall Pa's empty coffee cans used for collecting frogs and lizards, his love for mallard ducks, and his signature bucket fishing hat worn during outdoor adventures. He proudly enjoyed attending dance and piano recitals, football and basketball games, swim team meets, and gymnastic competitions. His grandchildren include Stephanie D. Hallmark, Jenna L. Hallmark, Joshua M. Ault, Austin Pannell, Allyson O. Ault, and family friend Evan Freed along with many others who called him "Pa." He loved life!

Legacy and Memorial: Donald's legacy lives on in the lives he touched including his loving wife, blessed children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and a community of fellow veterans who found in him a trusted friend. Known by many names: Donald, Don, Dad, Pa, Mr. Fix-it, Man of many hats, Uncle Donnie, Zee, Zero, Neighbor, Friend. Donald was a man of many roles and talents, each leaving a lasting impression on those who knew him. Each nickname reflected a unique aspect of his personality and life: "Mr. Fix-it" for his handy skills and resourcefulness, "Man of many hats" for his versatility and willingness to help, "Uncle Donnie" for his warmth and humor, "Zee or Zero" for his funny military call sign, and "Neighbor" for his friendly and welcoming nature.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones for a celebration of life memorial service with military honors on August 01, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, followed by his celebration of life memorial service at 10:00 am at Peevey Funeral Home. A private inurnment will take place at Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Star of Hope Mission, Halo House Foundation or Tunnel to Tower Foundation honoring Donald E. Ault's lifelong commitment to helping others.
