Dixie McCracken Shewell peacefully passed away on October 17, 2021 at home, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Dixie joined her Savior Jesus Christ and her beloved son, Charles Rodney Shewell Jr (Chuck) in Heaven. Dixie was born August 21, 1942, in Kansas City, Kansas. Affectionately known as "Nena" by her grandchildren, she was the ninth of eleven children born to George McCracken and Vera Garriott McCracken. Dixie was preceded in death by her son (Chuck), Father (George), Mother (Vera), Siblings (Colleen, Daphene, Doc, Dee, Don, Okema and Lloydena), Dixie is survived by her devoted daughter Susan Boubonais (Ed), daughter in law Lorie Shewell (Paul Lewis), Grandkids: Charles (Treay) R. Shewell III (Kelli), Allyson Shewell-Coontz (Kelly), Brooke Bourbonais. Kali Bourbonais, Chance Bourbonais, and great grandson Charles (Quaid) R. Shewell IV, or "the Boy" as she affectionately called him.

After graduating High School, Dixie married and moved to Houston, Texas with her family. A resident of Houston for 50+ years, Dixie found work in the Accounting field and retired from Goodman Manufacturing. Dixie was a diminutive lady but she was a selfless, fearless, survivor. Dixie fought and won her battles against breast cancer and cervical cancer. Her faith was challenged with disease, destructive fire to her home, and the death of her only son but she never wavered in her trust in GOD.

Anyone who knew Dixie knew her two passions in life. Her love of Christ and her love of family. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's school events, athletic games, and especially took pride in having the family all come together on Christmas Eve for the Sagemont Church Christmas Eve candlelight service. Dixie was an active member of Sagemont Church where she volunteered to help anywhere she was needed. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, helped out with the Stepping Stones program, went on mission trips, and always had a smile on her face to greet you.

"Nena" had a special relationship with her 5 grandchildren. Whether it was an overnight stay at her house, her delicious French Toast for breakfast or dinner, famous back scratches, or watching home movies, she was at her best being a mother and grandmother. Nena always hosted Christmas Eve at her house after candlelight service, ending the evening with a warm home cooked meal. Dixie's favorite thing to do was to have her family around and teach them about the Lord.

We will receive guests at Peevey Funeral Home Thursday, October, 21st at 3:30pm. Dixie's celebration of life will begin at 4:30pm. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas on Monday, so the family requests in lieu of flowers, those desiring, may send donations to the Alzheimer's Association or MD Anderson Cancer Research.

The family is at peace knowing Dixie is now with our Lord and Savior looking down on us everyday.
