Diane Bernice (Clay) Shannahan, a 5th generation native Houstonian, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of October 16, 2024, at Kindred Hospital in Clear Lake, Texas. Born on August 29, 1952, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of Walter Louis Clay and Rose Marie (Kuritza) Clay.

Diane began her education at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School, attended Mount Carmel High School, and graduated from Westchester Senior High School in 1970. She earned a teaching degree from Southwest Texas State University and a Master's degree from the University of Houston. Diane dedicated over 25 years to teaching in Pasadena ISD, after spending a few years teaching in San Marcos and Houston ISD. She was known for her dedication to her students, often going above and beyond to help them succeed.

In addition to her teaching career, Diane was an exceptional cook, inspiring her son Ryan to pursue a career in the culinary arts. She also loved reading, boating, fishing, watching movies, and doing puzzles. Diane was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for over 30 years.

Diane is survived by her loving family, including her husband of 41 years, Robert J. Shannahan; her sons, Sean (Kathleen) and Ryan (Ashley); eight grandchildren, including a very new two-week-old granddaughter; her sisters, Mary Louise and Roseanne (Rick); her brothers, Richard (Kathy), Michael, David (Penny), Donald, and Tom (Leslie); and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Ralph.

The family will receive friends for the Rosary at 10:30AM, Friday, October 25, 2024, followed by a Memorial Mass to be celebrated at 11:00AM at St. Luke's the Evangelist Catholic Church. A reception will follow in the church hall.
