Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Debra Jean Nelms passed away on November 30, 2025.

Debra was born in Wichita Falls, TX on November 28, 1955 to Harry Brewer and Carrol Collins Brewer. She was the 2nd of 4 children. Debra grew up in Wichita Falls where she forged lifelong friendships and met the love of her life, Jimmy Nelms, before making her way to Southeast Houston area where they settled and raised their children, Jason Mac and Jennifer Marie.

Debra leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter and unforgettable traditions.  She had a remarkable gift for bringing people together – most often around a table filled with food she lovingly cooked herself. Her kitchen was the heart of her home and always made enough to feed her family plus their friends, but only after her dogs, Sugar and Sissy got their share first!  Debra also found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially in bowling nights and trips filled with friendly competition and good company.  But nothing lit up her world quite like Christmas.  Every year, she transformed her home into a winter wonderland – complete with lights, festive décor and countless memories made with her children and grandchildren.  Her love for the season wasn't just about decorations; it was about creating magic for the people she cherished the most.

Debra was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Carrol Brewer; her siblings, Tanya Brewer, Cindy Kyle and Tim Brewer and great grandson Grayson Weil.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Jim Nelms; her children, Jason Nelms and Jennifer Ashlock and husband, Jason Ashlock; her grandchildren, Cade, Jacob, Beckham, Dylan, Devin, Madelynn and Jaxson. She is also survived by many dear friends who became family.

A memorial service celebrating Debra's life will be held Saturday, December 6th at 10:00am at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Rd, Houston, TX 77089.
