Christine Frances Dominy, eighty, of Houston, passed away peacefully at home on September twenty-second, twenty twenty-six.
Born in the District of Columbia on October twentieth, nineteen forty-five, to Percy Carrington Powell, and Elsie Grace Wilkins, Christine’s early years were marked by hardship. At about the age of seven she was placed in an orphanage, and at ten she was adopted into the loving home of Major John T. Godber, a Korean War veteran, and his wife, Mary G. Godber, a nurse.
She remained close to her adoptive family throughout her life and was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Dennis Godber and John Godber.
Christine was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was first married to Alton Smithey and was the mother of two sons, Brad Douglas Smithey and Ollie Lee Smithey, both of whom predeceased her. She later married Jerry Craig and was the mother of two daughters, Dawn Craig and Jamie Craig. In nineteen eighty-five, while living in Houston, she met Walter Dominy in a biker bar and it was love at first site. They married two years later and shared thirty-nine more years of life together.
She loved animals and nature, enjoyed reading and playing family games, and took pleasure in many hobbies over the years, including gardening and crafting.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Dominy; her daughters, Dawn Craig and Jamie Craig; her stepdaughter, Lorena Dominy; her sister, Kerrie Rutledge; her grandsons, Christian Ray and William Simpson, whom she raised as her own child; her two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Christine will be remembered for the family she built and the love she gave.
