With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Cheryl Lynn Newell, who left this world surrounded by family on March 8, 2025, at the age of 71. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and JoAnna Allen, brother John "Johnny" Allen, and son Stephen Newell.

Born on June 23, 1953, Cheryl devoted her life to caring for her family and spent 50 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Richard Newell. Before dedicating herself to raising their two children, Cheryl worked as a Branch Manager at Gibraltar Savings Association.

Cheryl graduated from Jones High School in 1971 and later attended the University of Houston, graduating Cum Laude in 1975 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.

She met Richard Newell in October 1969 and they later began dating in August of 1970. They announced their engagement on Cheryl's 21st birthday and were married on May 24, 1975.

Cheryl was a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Richard built a loving home together, one filled with warmth, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Cheryl will be remembered for her love of wildflowers, her fondness for enjoying a cold Dr. Pepper, and curling up with a good book.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard; their son, Ryan, his wife, Vanessa, and their children, Gavin and Sofia; and their daughter, Erin.

Cheryl's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her love and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Visitation for Cheryl will be held on Sunday, March 16th, from 3:00pm until 5:00pm at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Rd., Houston, Texas.

The service to celebrate Cheryl's life will be held at 10:00am on Monday, March 17th, 2025 at Peevey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Park East.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America in Cheryl's honor.
