Cathryn "Cathy" Culbertson Smith, 78, passed away surrounded by family on November 9, 2021. She was born June 1, 1943 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Frederick G. "Jack" and Martha Brown Culberson. She graduated from W. B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1961 and received a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin in 1966.

After college, Cathy worked as a registered Pharmacist at several private pharmacies in Corpus Christi, Pasadena, and Deer Park for 36 years before retiring in 2002. At that time, pharmacy was a primarily male-dominated field. She worked mainly part-time to devote extended time to her family.

In 1966, she met the love of her life, James Robert "Jim" Smith when a mutual friend set them up on a blind date. They married on Good Friday, March 24, 1967 at First Baptist Church, Corpus Christi, Texas. They settled in Corpus Christi but moved to Pasadena, Texas shortly thereafter so Jim could begin working for Pasadena ISD.

Cathy and Jim have always been active members of their church communities. They were members of First Baptist Church, La Porte, Texas for about 28 years and have been members of South Main Baptist Church, Pasadena, Texas for 23 years. Cathy has served as a Sunday school teacher, GA leader, choir member, and handbell choir member. Her Christian faith was a very important part of her life translating into years of faithful service.

Cathy and Jim enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada. They enjoyed numerous cross-country excursions together over the years. Cathy was an accomplished seamstress and loved completing various crafts (knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, painting). She was a woman of immeasurable talent. One of her true passions was scrapbooking. She completed yearly scrapbooks for each of her grandchildren. She poured many hours of love into each one.

Cathy is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jim Smith; her two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Joel Graham and Courtney and Mike McAllister; her four grandchildren, Austin and Addyson Sumner and Sydney and Peyton McAllister; her brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Connie Culbertson; her sister, Ellen Latta; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other beloved friends and relatives. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Martha Culbertson.

The Visitation and Celebration of Life service are planned for Saturday, November 13, 2021 at South Main Baptist Church, 4300 East Sam Houston Pkwy S, Pasadena, Texas. Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 PM and the Celebration of Life service will begin at 1:00 PM. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed through the church's website (southmain.org).
