Carolyn Barton McCurrin Sootoo passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord at her home in Deer Park, Texas on September 21, 2022. She was 81 years old.

Carolyn was born on June 8, 1941, in Richland, Texas to Leroy and Florence Barton. She graduated from Corsicana High School in 1959 and later married Bobby McCurrin on July 26, 1961. Together, they had two children, Teressa and Brian. Carolyn and Bobby were married for 29 years, until Bobby's passing in November 1990.

The McCurrins were long-time friends and neighbors of Benjamin and Diane Sootoo and their daughter, Lisa. The two families attended Trinity Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas together for many years. Diane passed away earlier in the same year as Bobby. Carolyn and Benjamin found solace and care in one another in their hard times and married one another on May 19, 1991. They were married for 18 years, until Benjamin's passing in July 2009.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby McCurrin; her parents, Leroy and Florence Barton; sisters, Barbara Ann Henson and Frances Ward Schneider; and her second husband, Benjamin Sootoo.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Teressa Morrissey (partner James Hodge), daughter Lisa Davis

(husband Mike), and son Brian McCurrin; grandchildren Kira Hooker, Christina Maldonado, Michael Hooker, Cody Davis (wife Carly), Jocelyn Martin (husband Blake), Casondra Mendez (husband Caleb), and Nathan McCurrin; great-grandchildren Alexis Bell, Celestyne Works, Korbin Daniel, Drue Hooker, Michael Hooker Jr., Julian Malone, Gabriella Hooker, Andrew Maldonado, and Morgan Mendez; and a host of nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Services will be held at Peevey Funeral Home (12440 Beamer Rd, Houston, TX 77089); Visitation will be held Friday, October 30, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 pm and a Celebration of Life Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 3:00 pm. A graveside service will be held Monday, October 3, 2022 at 11:00 am at Resthaven Memorial Park (5400 TX-31, Corsicana, TX 75110).

At Carolyn's request, please wear colorful attire instead of black attire.
