Boyce Edward Sterling passed away on Monday, April 18th, 2022 just shy of his 89th birthday. He was born in Newberry, South Carolina on May 31st, 1933 to the parents of Charles Fredrick Sterling and Vera Boozer Sterling. Boyce graduated from Newberry High School in 1951 and went on to join the U.S. Navy in July of that year where he did a four-year tour during the Korean War. After his tour, he would come home and work for a funeral home before moving to Washington DC for a job and where he would meet his lovely wife Elizabeth at the First Baptist Church, Washington DC where they would marry and then three years later moved to Pasadena, Texas after taking a job at NASA Johnson Space Center. Pasadena would be his home for the next 55 years until is death this last week. Boyce would retire from NASA in 1994 with 41 years of government service. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Pasadena, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Elizabeth Fairchilds Sterling, daughter Anna Elizabeth Winand, son in law James Charles Winand and two grandsons Cody James Winand and Casey Allen Winand. He is preceded in death by son, Duane Edward Sterling.

After retirement Boyce's favorite hobby was building and flying remote control airplanes going to the air shows and sharing his love of airplanes with his son, Duane. They would have many good times on their airplane adventures. He was a member of the Johnson Space Center Radio Control Club. He also enjoyed building wood projects such as bench swings in his back year and not long before his strength left him, he worked on his last bench swing for his daughter, Anna.

He was very active with his grandchildren and would be at all their sports, school and theatre events. He was their biggest supporter and they were his pride and joy. He was so proud of the young men that they had become.

He was a kind, loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be genuinely missed by his family and his lifelong friends.

God will link the broken chain, as one by one we meet again!

A private graveside ceremony with military honors will be held at Grandview Cemetery.
