Billie Jean Bush Hurst, 90, was born to Joseph R. Bush and Mamie Smith in New Waverly, Texas on April 23, 1933.  She was the youngest child and had 3 older sisters and one older brother. Her mother and father died at an early age and she was raised by her older brother, Ray, and his wife Polly.  They had 3 children of their own that were like her siblings.  She spent her lifetime surrounded by her loving family, including Mel, her husband of 65 years, two children, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of close family friends.

Billie's professional career started with The Woman's Clinic of Pasadena, Doctors Upchurch, McDonald and Williams.  She worked there for many years as their accounts manager.  She then decided to get her real estate license, and that was the start to a very successful career as a realtor.  She and some of her colleagues called themselves "The Golden Girls" and started their own real estate company, Town Square Realty. There, she made lasting friendships that spanned over 40 years.

Billie was a long-time member of Mu Alpha sorority and met many lifelong friends along the way. Billie and Mel loved to travel and were blessed to go to many countries and states.  They were able to travel to the Holy Land with their church, where they were both baptized in the Jordan River.  Billie felt she was never baptized as a child, and wanted to be baptized in the church so she did so on December 4, 2022.  She was 89 years old.

The familiar saying that "family is where life begins and love never ends" certainly describes Billie's life. Both her extended and spiritual families have continued to grow and now we will always remember her in our hearts, because she is a part of us.

Billie is survived by her daughter, Sherri Brewton and husband James; grandson Jon Brewton and wife Kerry; granddaughter Amanda Brewton; granddaughter Ashley Branyan and husband Patrick; grandson Christopher Hurst and wife Genesis; three beautiful great-granddaughters Lucy and Olive Brewton, and Evangeline Hurst; sister Becky Carlton; numerous cousins, devoted friends, and the spiritual community of the First Baptist Church of Pasadena.  The family would also like to thank Alma Uribe for all the love and support over the last few years.  Billie loved her and she took such good care of her.   In addition, we thank her dear friend, Nan Thomas, for all her love and companionship she gave Billie over the years.

Her Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church Pasadena, 7500 Fairmont Parkway, in the Chapel on Wednesday November 1, 2023.  Visitation will be held at 10:00am and the service at 11:00am.
