William Douglas Dorsett, Sr. (Bill) was born in St. Clair County, AL, on May 17, 1935.  He went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on June 21, 2023.

Bill was the oldest son of Lila Mae and William Dean Dorsett.  He was followed by his sister, June, and then brothers Randall, Ralph, and Don.

In 1952, Bill's dad moved to Houston to work as a truck driver.  Bill joined his dad in early 1953 also as a driver, staying with his Uncle James Dorsett.  Once settled in a home, Bill's mother and siblings also moved to Houston in December 1953.

In January of 1955 Bill met the love of his life, Neda Jean Peterson, and they were married on June 3, 1955.  In 1956 they had their first daughter, Chrys, and then was quickly followed by their sons, Bill Jr. (BJ), David, daughter Karen, and youngest son, James.

While continuing to work in the concrete industry, Bill was gaining a lot of experience in all aspects of the concrete business while unloading barges, batching, dispatch, sales, and then plant manager, to becoming a Vice President.  He worked for several various concrete companies. Bill was excited about Houston and called it the Land of Opportunities.

On July 7, 1977, Bill along with his brother, Randall, started their own concrete company and named it Dorsett Brothers Concrete.  They were also joined by Bill's son, BJ.  They literally began at ground zero physically clearing the land they purchased, getting the buildings in, and gradually buying their equipment.  Bill's son, David, came on board, and then son, James came to work for Dorsett Brothers when he graduated from college.  Bill's brothers, Ralph and Don, also came to work for Dorsett Brothers.

Bill hired many good employees, and he sincerely cared about them. He had the knack for putting things in their right place.  He knew what he wanted, and he hired good people.  He could place the right person within the right position.  He taught the employees to be accountable, and in order to be successful you need to treat people right.

Bill and Randall successfully worked well together during these years, each overseeing areas which they were experienced in within Dorsett Brothers.

Bill was always negotiating, and his attitude was to agree and work with the customers to get what they wanted, and then be happy with the job when completed.

He was trustworthy, had more integrity than anyone you could have imagined, and if he made a mistake, he admitted to it and set out to immediately correct it.  He was honest, honorable, and humble.  He touched and affected so many people's lives during these years.

He built the company on the foundation of God and lived out his faith with his customers and employees.  He retired from Dorsett Brothers when he was 76 years old, during which time God had immensely blessed Dorsett Brothers.

Bill, Neda, and children were active members of Central Baptist Church in Pasadena for 31 years beginning in 1958.  It was during the years at Central that they raised their children.  The members at Central were family to each other, and many lifelong friendships were established during that time.

Since 1989 Bill and Neda have been members at Sagemont Church in Houston.  They have developed many strong friendships throughout the years and have continued to grow spiritually in the Lord.

They have experienced great joy in being involved in world missions throughout their marriage.  Particularly in Africa where they touched so many lives which have been blessed due to their support in the areas of ministry, education, and health care.  They both found a true joy in giving.

As a father and husband, Bill has always put his whole heart into all aspects and needs of his family.  He was an admirable, attentive, and loving father.  He always had the best advice, and the direction and guidance he would give was always correct and true.  His relationship with Jesus was always first and foremost and he passed this on to his children.  He had a great sense of humor, and at the most unexpected moments could make you laugh out loud.

Bill and Neda were married for 68 blessed years.  Throughout their lives together, their love for each other was always apparent, and an example of the true covenant of marriage for us all.  They were wonderful, very caring, and generous parents.  They especially loved each and every one of their 16 grandchildren and their spouses, as well as 19 (soon to be 21) great grandchildren.

Our loving father was the real deal and a giant of a man.  We have been so blessed to call him "dad".  We will miss him greatly, but we are so thankful this great man was in our lives and have the confidence that we will be with him again.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Lila Mae and William Dean Dorsett.  Father/Mother-in-Law Gracie Lee and Edward James Peterson. Son, James Dorsett.  Brothers Randall Dorsett and Don Dorsett. Brother-in-Law Brince Dickson.  Brother and Sister in- Law Woody and Dreak Archer, Brother and Sister-in-Law Roy and Pat Cox. Sister-in-Law Nina Peterson.  Including other family members who have since passed.

Bill is survived by his wife Neda.  Sister June Dickson, Brother Ralph Dorsett and wife Dianne.   Sister-in-Law Linda Dorsett.  Sister-in-Law Tina Dorsett. Brother-in-Law Jerry Peterson.

Children: Chrys Dorsett and husband, Pat Hancock.  BJ Dorsett and wife, Jill.  David Dorsett and wife, Michelle. Karen Dorsett and husband, Sandy Baird.  Hollie Wells Dorsett wife of James Dorsett. Grandchildren:  Joy Hancock and husband, Kevin Glade.  Houston Hancock and wife, Katie.  Nina Hancock McFarlane, and Austin Hancock.  Ashley Dorsett and husband, Jordan Evans. Hilary Dorsett and husband Mike Whitsitt. Savannah Dorsett and husband, David Cox.  Laci Dorsett.  Trecinda Dorsett and husband, Kyle Rangel.   Drea Dorsett and husband, James Bryan.  Mandy Dorsett and husband Kevin Mikulan.  Kyle Baird and wife, Kelsey.  Ava Baird and husband Daniel Darnell.  Cole Dorsett and wife Farrin, Jacob Dorsett, and Carter Dorsett. 21 Great-Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The service honoring his life will be held at Sagemont Church, Thursday, June 29, at 11:00am., the family will welcome friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
