Barbara Davila Vasquez, 83 years old, gracefully departed to Heaven on August 9, 2023 at Magnolia Crossing in Houston, TX, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on March 1, 1940 in Hargill, TX to Juan and Anna Davila. Barbara graduated from Edinburg High School in 1959, where she met the love of her life, Alfonso. She married her high school sweetheart on October 14, 1964 and they moved to Houston, TX to establish a better life for their family.

Barbara was a dedicated wife to her husband and nurturing mother to her daughter, two sons, eight grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Barbara's compassion guided her as a stay-at-home mother, then in her 20+ years of service as a paraprofessional teacher for Pasadena ISD. She was very devoted to her community, as shown through her professional and volunteer work for Stuchbery, Meador, and Garfield Elementary Schools, and as an ESL teacher and Bible Studies leader at Sagemont Church. Barbara also served as team mom on her children's football, baseball, and basketball teams. As a Christmas tradition, she performed the role of Mrs. Claus and read "The Night Before Christmas" at her grandchildren's elementary school. Barbara was committed to her grandchildren as she was her own. She was cherished by all for her wisdom, kindness, glamor, and beauty.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Juan Davila and Anna Stafford; son, Arnold Vasquez; sisters, Alice Davila Rosa and Helen Davila Hernandez; and brothers, Johnny Davila and Daniel Davila. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Alfonso Vasquez; daughter, Elizabeth Ybarra and husband, Carlos Ybarra; son, Albert Vasquez; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Vasquez; sister, Anna Rosalez and husband, Johnny Rosalez, her eight beloved grandchildren, Dominique Vasquez, Kristy Ybarra and fiancé, Ryan Cooper, Alexa Vasquez, Joseph Ybarra, Victoria Vasquez, Krystal Ybarra, Alec Vasquez, and Nicholas Vasquez; great-grandchild, Devin Spears; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and dozens of adored friends. Barbara is dearly missed by all.

The funeral service will be held at Peevey Funeral Home, Thursday, August 17, at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
