Ashley Ernestine Wysong, 93, of Heath, TX, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on February 14, 2024.

Ashley was born on September 25, 1930 to James Guy and Alice Highsaw Houston in Pasadena, Texas. As a teen, Ashley was named Miss Bluebonnet, a title of which she was very proud. After graduating from Pasadena High School, she briefly attended Rice University in Houston and Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, TX.

While working full time as an executive secretary, Ashley and her first husband, Leroy Smith, raised their family of three children, Gary, Jana, and Roy.  She also welcomed her niece, Gail Harvey Owens, and nephew, Todd Harvey, into her home and treated them as her own. Family was always her first priority. She would do anything to help those she loved, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. Ashley was a beautiful person who embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and enduring care for her family.  She had a beautiful smile and sparkling eyes that lit the room when she entered.  She was affectionately known by several nicknames including Sammie, Snooks, and Nooney.

Ashley lived in seven states, traveled the world including Japan, Europe, and Russia.  She loved to garden and was an accomplished seamstress.  She sewed many clothes for herself and Jana and reupholstered/refinished treasures she found at yard sales and swap meets. Obviously a woman ahead of her time! She could probably have her own flea market finds show today!

Ashley was predeceased by her parents Alice and Guy Houston, by her sisters Helen McMillan, Bessie Jo Boggus, Clara Stubbs, and Jacquelyne Conces, by her half-brother Frank Houston, by an infant daughter (Baby Smith), her husband Max Wysong, her former spouse Leroy Smith, and longtime companion Bill DeBorde.  She is survived by her children Gary Smith (Teresa), Jana Smith (David George), and Roy Smith and her three granddaughters Anastacia George, Katherine Smith, and Sara Smith. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will miss Ashley's sass, wit, caring nature, and fun-loving spirit.

The family would like to thank the staff at Colonial Oaks of Rockwall and Pathway Hospice for the care and support provided to Ashley and her family.

Visitation with the family will be Friday March 1, 2024, at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Rd, Houston, TX 77089 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, and Saturday morning March 2, 2024, from 10:00am to 11:00am, with funeral services immediately following at 11:00am.  Burial will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.  A reception for family and friends will be held after internment at a location to be announced.
