Early Sunday morning May 1, 2022, Alpha Gwendolyn Gibbs peacefully went to be with Jesus. Her family held both her hands as she left this earthly life and joined her husband of 62 years in their heavenly home. Alpha Gwendolyn (Gwen) will be remembered for her great love and faithfulness to her husband and family. Psalm 100:5 "For the Lord is good; His loving kindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations."

Gwen is survived by her two children, Gary Martin Gibbs (Rosemary) and grandson Bryan, Teri Gibbs Farrell (John): and 4 grandchildren: Abigail Farrell Atkinson (Cooper), Jacob Farrell, Joshua Farrell, and Anna Farrell.

Gwen was born in Woodville, Texas July 23, 1933, to Alpha Bryan and Francis Lucille Martin.She grew up on her family farm in Woodville enjoying time with her cousins and experiencing childhood in the east Texas woods. She graduated high school and went on to get her Bachelor's in Science in Education from East Texas Baptist College, and a Master's in Education from University of Houston. Gwen was an excellent teacher, she began teaching in Woodville, where she taught, kindergarten, Art, various grades from 1-6 and even coached a volleyball team. Despite her country roots, Gwen gravitated to the city with a little nudge from her mother, where she met the love of her life Jimmy Jack Gibbsat her church in Pasadena, Texas.

Gwen was married to Jimmy on July 31, 1959. The two were happily married for over 62 years. Jimmy went to be with Jesus on Sept 9, 2021. Gwen and Jimmy were united in all they did. They were both educators for over 30 years. Gwen taught at several schools and then opened Thompson Intermediate in Pasadena ISD where she taught English for almost 20 years.Jimmy was a lead counselor at nearby J. Frank Dobie High School.

Gwen and Jimmy resided in Sagemont Park for over 50 years. Gwen always had a cute yard full of plants and flowers where she loved to sit outside and read and visit.She loved decorating for holidays. At Christmas she took days to fill every inch of the house with Christmas spirit. She loved reading books, working puzzles, iPad games and writing cute rhymes and poems for celebrations with colleagues, friends, and family. Jimmy and Gwen spent many years with a small group from church playing games and cards and sharing desserts.She had cherished friends from her work, neighborhood, and church, Sagemont Church whereher and Jimmy were members for over 50 years. The couple were involved in a Sunday School class where Jimmy played the piano. Often you could catch Gwen singing hymns in the house while Jimmy practiced the piano.Her favorite hymn was "Because He Lives".

Gwen was named Nanny by her first grandchild. Nanny and Pappawfaithfully babysat for many years and enjoyed spoiling each of their five grandchildren. Nanny would watch the kids while Pappaw would help with projects around the house. They even created a polaroid snapshot book of each of the grandchildren's first year. Nanny loved to visit her grandchildren on their birthdays. She would call each of them, singing Happy Birthday over the phone as soon they answered. She was always making her grandchildren feel special.During the past year, Gwen enjoyed her daily devotional readings and watching Family Feud with her kids and grandkids.

Gwen 'slove for her husband and commitment to her family will always be cherished. In recent months, you could hear her say about her husband, " I loved him for 62 years, but it wasn't long enough".An eternity is now home for their love.The memories of Gwen's life well lived, herfaith in Jesus, her commitment to family and her undying love for Jimmywill always resonate in our memories, giving us strength, and pointing us to the Lord's faithfulness. Psalm 119:20 "Your faithfulness continues through all generations…"

The funeral service will be held at Peevey Funeral Home, Monday, May 9, at 11:00am., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
