Alan Farris Birkby, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and trusted friend, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 80. Born and raised in the close-knit community of Lamar, Colorado, on May 7, 1945, Alan carried with him the quiet strength, integrity, and work ethic shaped by his roots throughout his life.

He was the son of Reeves and Hildred Birkby and the younger brother of Bob Birkby, with whom he shared a lifelong sibling bond filled with memories of small-town adventures, spirited debates, and unwavering brotherhood.

Alan met the love of his life, Jacqueline "Jackie" Birkby, in elementary school. The two were part of each other's lives from the very beginning, and their story is one of deep friendship, growth, and love spanning over 70 years. Jackie moved to Boulder while Alan was a senior in college, and their connection flourished into a lifelong partnership. Alan earned a bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Colorado. They married in January of 1968, marking 57 years together. According to Jackie, it just took Alan getting tall enough for her to really notice him — wink wink. From there, the rest was history.

Alan and Jackie built a life rooted in laughter and enduring devotion. They raised their son, Kevin Birkby, who, along with his wife Amber Birkby, became a source of pride and joy. Alan treasured his role as "Papa" to his twin grandchildren, Tucker and Nicole Birkby. Their visits brought light and energy into every corner of his life. He was the best Papa.

Alan spent over 10 years of his career building custom homes, during which he became an early champion of the resurgence of timber framing—a craft he deeply respected. Even after transitioning into a long and successful career as a self-employed sales consultant specializing in industrial woodworking machinery, he never put down his tools. Alan continued building woodworking projects for pleasure and crafted much of the furniture in the family's home, each piece a testament to his craftsmanship and care.

He was also an excellent cook who found joy in the kitchen. His Christmas Eve prime rib became a cherished family tradition—anticipated all year long, rich not just in flavor but in the warmth and love he poured into every detail.

Alan also had a special place in his heart for his beloved boxer dogs. He was never happier than when standing on the wooden porch he built himself, manning the grill, and throwing a frisbee for his good boy.

Alan approached life with sharp wit, steadfast convictions, and deep loyalty to those he cared about—especially Jackie, who remained at the center of his world for over seven decades. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by his family and friends.
